The project is a response to the clients’ wish to open up the kitchen, which is currently isolated from the rest of the house. Demolishing an existing closet reverses this situation: it opens up the flat, enhancing the natural light from windows on both ends, and opening the kitchen onto the living room and entryway. The L-shaped counters and centre island allow for comfortable circulation between the different spaces. The choice of materials translates and reinforces these spatial principles.
