HOUSE 1 / 12 CITIES is an experimentation project conducted at the Ecole nationale supérieure d’architecture de Versailles (ENSA-V) with the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), involving the construction of a full-scale, wooden structure measuring around 300 sq.m.

After first being constructed by Atelier de la Conception de l’Espace (ALICE) at Place Cosenday on the EPFL campus in Lausanne in the spring of 2016, the structure was dismantled and transported to Versailles, where it was adapted and reconstructed several months later in the Cours des Fontaines at the Petite Ecurie du Roy. Reusing all of the elements, 12 spaces were set up in a reinterpretation of the ‘12 ideal cities' imagined by Superstudio in 1971.

This exercise in architectural writing is a constructive educational experiment including the reinterpretation of theoretical texts, managing a work site, and learning the project process through full-scale production.
